4 Tips To Help You Paint During Cold Weather

If you need to paint the outside of your house for some reason during the winter time, here are four tips that will help you paint the outside of your house effectively as painting during the winter time can present a few challenges.

#1 Make Sure That You Choose The Right Paint

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you choose the right paint. There are specific types of paint that are designed to be used in cold weather and specific types of paints that will not function properly if it is freezing outside. This varies from one manufacture to the next, so you are going to need to read the details on the paint can itself to figure out if that particular brand and type of paint will work on the outside of your house in cold temperatures.

#2 Set Up Scaffolding

When you paint, you are going to want to rent some scaffolding equipment. Then you are going to want to use large rolls of plastic sheeting to wrap up the scaffolding equipment and stretch it between two different scaffolding. This will help create a weather-protected area for you to paint in.

Once you have set up the plastic, set up a portable heater in that area. This will help warm up the walls and make it easier to apply the paint. This will also make it easier on you to do the actually painting.

#3 Apply Bonding Primer

When the weather is cold outside, it is especially important that you prepare the walls that you are painting. You are going to want to apply a bonding primer to your exterior walls before you paint them. The bonding primer will help the paint stick better to your house, which is especially important when it is cold outside.

#4 Check The Weather

Make sure that you check the weather before you paint. You want to paint on a day where there is no chance of rain or snow. You also want to make sure that the next day or two after you paint are going to at least be above freezing. This will help the drying process and will help ensure that the paint has enough time to properly cure before the temperatures drop again.

Finally, when you do paint, you want to paint during the warmest time of the day when the sun is out and it's nice outside.
